Professional Development and Wellbeing
Building Competent and Caring Staff
As quality staff is a key enabler in realising our Vision and achieving the Desired Outcomes, Beacon Primary School aims to develop our staff who are competent in nurturing the students to achieve their full potential and are guided by their care for the students and the community in school. The school focuses on teachers’ competencies in teaching and learning, mainly in the areas of Curriculum, Pedagogy, Assessment and Classroom Management.
Staff have access to a spectrum of professional learning experiences that provide growth of leadership and professional competencies. These learning experiences (based on the A-R-C learning model) can be formal or informal. The ARC learning model serves as a guideline that 70% of staff’s learning can come from assignments, 20% through developmental relationships, and 10% through structured courses.
In terms of professional learning opportunities through assignments and developmental relationships, the school recognises the value of peer-to-peer collaboration, sharing of good practices, learning journeys to other organisations and on-the-job training as powerful development tools. Hence, time and space are set aside for staff to be engaged in these meaningful learning and bonding opportunities at school level for their professional growth and wellness.
